The South Central Minnesota Mental Health Conference planning team is excited to announce that we are accepting nominations for speakers for our 2027 annual conference!
This one-day conference, on May 5, 2027, is open to community members and professionals who have an interest in supporting the mental health and well-being of those around them. Over the past three years, we’ve been proud to bring together stories, skills, experiences and areas of expertise that have inspired attendees to learn, grow, connect and take action to support mental health and wellness in our communities.
We’re looking for speakers who can bring fresh perspectives, practical knowledge, meaningful experiences and ideas that will inspire and equip attendees. Whether you are considering presenting yourself or know someone who would be a great fit, we invite you to submit a nomination! Nominations are open until Friday, Nov. 13. The South Central Minnesota Mental Health Conference envisions a world where mental health is openly discussed, understood and supported without stigma. Our conference aims to create a safe and inclusive environment where individuals from all walks of life can come together to share experiences, gain knowledge, and build a supportive community.
The annual conference is coordinated by the Brown County Mental Health and Wellness Action Team (MHWAT), which works throughout Brown County to reduce the stigma of mental health, increase resiliency and improve access to mental health treatment and services.

At our 2026 conference, the first day was dedicated to learning for 250 professionals, while for the first time, a second day was added to educate more than 300 local eighth graders. This year’s speakers focused on a range of topics, including how movement can be medicine, using food to support mental health, how laughter is medicine, how marijuana impacts brain development and having a confidence mindset.
Highlights from Prior Year Conferences
2025: Read the article in the Journal about Mindy Greiling, a former 20-year state legislator, mental health advocate and author, who shared a powerful story at the conference of navigating her son’s schizophrenia and her efforts to change policies and overcome fear and stigma.
2024: Read the article in the Journal about Brown County Attorney Chuck Hanson's presentation on social media and its effects on children.
NOTE: Conference registration charges will appear on your statement as New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce.
