Join Us for Two Suicide Prevention Month Activities

Changing The Narrative Presentation RevShine The Light Event

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and the Heart of New Ulm’s Brown County Mental Health and Wellness Action Team along with Brown County Yellow Ribbon are hosting two free community events.

Changing the Narrative Presentation

The first event is a presentation, "Changing the Narrative on Mental Health and Suicide," which invites community members to join an interactive dialogue to learn how to have healthy conversations about mental health and suicide. Presenter Erin Schwab, a health educator and planner for Brown County Public Health and a Certified Prevention Professional, will empower attendees to change perceptions of mental health toward hope and resilience.

The event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Ulm Country Club, 1 Golf Drive. The presentation is free and attendees are welcome to order from the new at their own expense. Register at https://tinyurl.com/NarrativeNewUlm.

Shine the Light Event

The second event is Brown County Yellow Ribbon’s Shine The Light Suicide Awareness and Prevention event, which is co-sponsored by the City of New Ulm Park and Recreation. The event will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at German Park and serve as a day of support, community and raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. There will be food trucks, live music by Tanner Stark, the Walk of Hope, informational resources, rock painting and more. Everyone in the community is welcome to join together to remember those lost, support those who have survived, and save those that they can by shining a light on hope.

The Heart of New Ulm’s Brown County Mental Health and Wellness Action Team works throughout Brown County to reduce the stigma of mental health, improve resiliency and improve access to mental health treatment and services.
