SUMMARY:Understanding NEAR Science: Building Self-Healing Communities
DESCRIPTION:Registration link: https://tinyurl.com/NEARscience \nNEAR Science stands for Neurobiology\, Epigenetics\, ACEs and Resilience research. \nAddressing intergenerational and historical trauma is going to take a lot of creative solutions and approaches. Although a short presentation does not provide all the answers\, the key goal of this presentation is to build a common language and understanding about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the related research as a starting point. \nUnderstanding NEAR Science: Building Self-Healing Communities is presented in three sections:  \n\nNeurobiology & Epigenetics focuses on how our brains adapt to our environment during childhood and some basic concepts about related to how toxic stress can impact healthy development.\nKey Findings from the ACE study highlights some of the data from the original ACE Study.\nResilience provides a framework for thinking about resilience\, and focuses primarily on attachment and belonging\, supporting individual capabilities\, and culture\, community and spirituality as key protective systems.\n\nAfter attending this presentation\, attendees are encouraged to think about how this information could be applied within their own “sphere of influence” (family\, workplace\, school\, community\, etc.). \nAgenda: \n9 – 9:30 a.m. — Registration\, refreshments\, icebreaker \n9:30 – 11:30 a.m. — Presentation \n11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. — Networking lunch (free) \n12:30 – 2:30 p.m. — Presentation and reflection questions \nPresenters: \n  Barb Sorum\, Director of Prevention Initiatives\, FamilyWise \n  Melinda Haupt\, Masters in Social Work student\, FamilyWise\nMelinda is passionate about mental health and has years of Social Work experience\, ranging from DD and MI to School settings. \nTraining curriculum created by
